Budget camera king: the Honor 10 the Huawei P20 Pro's actual little brother… Photography beast? – Review- Gearbest

by - maio 29, 2018

Earlierthis year Huawei presented the P20, the astonishingly beautiful photographyking that I’ve already reviewed (check it out at http://needthetech.blogspot.com/2018/04/the-Huawei-p20-pro-made-me-eat-my-words_25.html) that showed how a smartphone can be powerfuland beautiful at the same time. Honour isa low-cost branch of Huawei and, as we have seen, their smartphones are extremelysimilar to the main company's, so expect the Honor 10 released May 2018 to beto seem familiar. Let’s see the spec list.

Thisnew smartphone has a design inspired on the new P20, the smartphone is made ofglass and has an aluminium frame that rests well in the hand. However, we can’tsay the same about a flat surface. On the back, the dual horizontal camerasetup is annoyingly raised on the top left corner, right before the alsoannoying “AI Camera” text (because although it's a Huawei phone, it's not Leica's). The colour scheme available and thesingle “Honor” logo on the bottom make it one of the most beautiful smartphonesout there. And that’s all in the back… yes! No fingerprint sensor! Although Ihave no problem with having it centred onthe back of a device I still believe it's more useful on the front… Honor managed to do it: on the front, the screen sits right above a small bezel that contains the fingerprint scanner and... (will you believe me?) the notch on the top is so small that actually contributes to the device's beauty. The smartphone still has a 3.5mm Headphone jack which is not that common nowadays right alongside the fast charging USB-C port.

What about this screen? The FullHD+ panel is more than good enough for just abouteverything… It comes out of the box in Vividmode which increases the colour contrast but you can set it to “normal”mode. There’s an option in the setting that allows to hide the notch and when watching videos, content doesn’t get cut off because the notch works with the screen as a bezel.
The smartphone is powered by Huawei’sNeural Processing Unit which is an AI-basedchipset. AI comes in handy cause it learns from the user. For example, if thesmartphone is used for gaming, it will automaticallyselect the best settings for maximum enjoyabilitywhen gaming. Another occasion when it is used is photography. The exceptionalshots taken with the Honor 10 are amazingand jaw-dropping, who knew such a cheapsmartphone could have such a great camera! The camera’s AI detects what is capturing and tweaks contrast and othershot’s characteristics to create a masterpiece.
Thefront camera is good but not the best, but who cares… Just take a look at thesepictures provided by GSM Arena:

AI OFF
AI ON

The only weak point on this smartphone isnot weak at all, the battery is more than good enough to last more than a dayof normal use, which is relative…
