The Huawei P20 Pro made me eat my words

Last year Huawei presented the P10 which was a true disappointment to me. This year the
P20 is a revolutionary smartphone that made Huawei gain many points in my consideration.
It's a phone of extreme beauty with an aluminum body and a glass shell and the twilight edition is gorgeous. It’s thin and light and really comfortable to hold with rounded edges. The smartphone is IP67 waterproof and no, it does not have a Headphone jack…
 It has a triple vertical camera setup on the back (which is a first) and Leica branding. The third camera is sort of separated from the other two. On the front there's a 6’1-inch AMOLED panel with FullHD+ resolution (that is 1080x2240 px) which is equivalent to a PPI of 432. The screen itself is quite good, with punchy colors and real blacks but the non-Pro version is brighter. It has a notch on the top and a fingerprint sensor on the bottom which allows for a 85% screen-to-body ratio and a 19:9 screen ratio. The gaming experience is good, the ANTUTU score is nothing of amazing but I guess that's because the chipset is a Neural Processing Unit, which means the device as AI onboard. The Kirin 970 amongst 6GB of Ram allow for a fluid gaming experience and great performance. For everyone to be able to compare, the ANTUTU score is of 210.000 points. The memory is not expandable but the smartphone is a dual SIM.

Talking about the camera on the back, this is amazing. A triple camera system: one 8MP f/2.4, one 20MP f/1.8 Black&White lens that allows for amazing night photos and a final 40MP f/1.7 camera. The 8MP lens allows for 3x optical zoom. There's OIS that allows for smooth recording but it doesn’t work on 4k video recording. However, Huawei's stabilization allows to take sharp photos even when taking photos in very dark situations with the night mode on that demands a 4 seconds video recording which reconstructs the photo with more light. There’s a 960FPS 720p video recording option available. The smartphone's camera got a score of 109 points on the DxO Mark which is absolutely amazing. It's a great smartphone when it comes to camera. The front facing camera has 24MP f/2.0 lens that makes the face way to smooth even with the beauty mode completely off (seriously Huawei, work on that please). This front camera is also used for Huawei's version of FaceID.

The last thing I wanted to talk to you is about the battery and thesoftware. Huawei can still improve when it comes to battery optimizationsoftware but the 4000mAh cell allows for 7:30h of intensive use which isamazing. The smartphone comes with EMUI 8.1 and Android Oreo 8.1.
The smartphone is amazing, I think Huawei could very well be the best smartphone company out there but it still needs to work a lot on its software to get there. It's not perfect but for a photography lover like myself this is definitely on my top 3.
