2017- Amazing devices you can’t miss this Christmas- Gearbest

by - dezembro 03, 2017

2017 was a year full of surprises, with some great and other not so good innovations in the world of smartphones. Taking a quick look back, it was the clear proof that we will probably be able to get a simple slab of glass as a smartphone in the near future. This year, many devices started appearing with smaller bezels and a higher screen-to-body ratio, never forgetting that the dual camera system on the back has become a normal feature for almost all devices. Unfortunately, the “wanted” posters for a headphone jack have been increasing, because more and more companies have started to ditch it. So, we saw many smartphones but it has come the time to decide which ones are the best. Keep in mind these are based on my opinions and maybe they’re not the same as yours. If you want to know more about them head on over to my blog and check reviews of some of them.

I wrote them in order, from the lowest to the highest price. I didn’t choose any sub 100€ device because let's be honest... do you actually believe you can buy a good smartphone in 2017 for under 100€? With that in mind, let’s get right into it.

Coming in at under 200€ we have the Xiaomi Mi A1. It’s a device with a 5.5-inch FullHD display with good colours. The smartphone carries the Snapdragon 625 amongst 4GB of RAM powered by an insane 3080mAh battery. The dual camera system on the back allows for 2x optical zoom and they’re all good for its given price. Besides... Google partnership and Android One? Great Investment...

For less than 300€ you can buy the Xiaomi Mi Note 3...Yes, another Xiaomi, I can’t help it, they’re just so good. The Snapdragon 660 amongst the 6GB of RAM allow for a great multitasking and an actually pretty good gaming experience. The device has a 5.5-inch FullHD display and a 3500mAh battery to power it. The dual cameras on the back follow the same idea as the Mi A1 and are the best ever on a Xiaomi smartphone, besides, the front one can even be used for face recognition.

For 400€ you can get some quite powerful devices.  The Meizu Pro 7 Plus was the first to carry Mediatek’s Helio X30 (which is comparable to Snapdragon’s 821 chip) amongst 6GB of RAM. The 3500mAh cell gives power to the whole smartphone, including the front 5.7-inch Super AMOLED 2K display and the rear 2-inch 240x536 AMOLED display. The back dual cameras are extremely good for its price (as is the front camera), and the phone takes great low-light shots.

With 500€ you can buy the OnePlus 5T. Can you believe it? We’re talking about a flagship for 250€ less than the average flagships. The device has the Snapdragon 835, 6GB of RAM and a FullHD 6-inch  AMOLED bezel-less display from Samsung. Not to mention that OnePlus’ Dash charge is the fastest I’ve ever seen and the battery drain is the slowest ever. Besides, you’re actually buying a dual camera system that is even better now that one of the lenses on the back is only there to enhance low-light performance. It’s an actual flagship for such a low price.

For less than 600€ you can get the revolutionary Huawei Mate 10. The smartphone has the latest Kirin 970 amongst a minimum of 4GB of RAM, which makes the phone almost as powerful as others with the Snapdragon 835. Huawei devoted this chip to AI performance (for example, the cameras detect what you’re trying to photograph and changes the camera’s definitions for a better eye-pleasing image). The dual cameras on the back are amazing, the device has the 2nd highest DxOMark in smartphone history and the battery is quite big, coming in at 4000mAh.

700€ will allow you to buy the Galaxy S8 (the S8+ if you have a little more). It has a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution slightly bigger than 2K and the latest Snapdragon 835 amongst 4GB of RAM.The battery comes in at 300mAh and thanks to Samsung’s software, the smartphone has a really good battery life. The device is only better than others when it comes to the single camera on the back which is absolutely amazing and it’s curved body and infinity display. Besides the fingerprint reader on the back, it also has an iris scanner and a face recognition system.

The LG V30 can actually be bought for less than 800€. Besides having the normal characteristics, that being a 6-inch QuadHD+ OLED display, the Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM and a 3300mAh battery, this smartphone is the best for photography lovers. The dual back cameras are a combination of a normal and a wide angle lens with quite a low aperture for a great low light performance, and the manual mode of the camera is the best I’ve ever seen.

Now we have a tie between the Note 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus for under 900€. The Note 8 is just a bigger S8, with a better camera (this time with dual lenses on the back, one telephoto one wide), a stylus and some new software features. The iPhone 8 on the other hand, has the most powerful chipset ever, the A11 Bionic, 3GB of RAM, a solid 2675mAh battery, a 5.5-inch FullHD display and a dual camera system (one telephoto, one normal) on the back that goes toe to toe with the Note 8’s. They're both quite beautiful devices, but I prefer the iPhone’s design.  I have a review of both devices in my blog.

Now for more than 900€, I would suggest the Pixel 2 XL, it has similar specs to other devices: a 6-inch bezel-less QuadHD+ pOLED display, 4GB of RAM, the Snapdragon 835, a 3520mAh battery and a single camera on the back, which is the best camera ever on a smartphone. However, it will have more software updates (because it’s Google), it has a squeeze feature (if you squeeze the device, you can program it to run an app or do something), stereo speakers on the front and...... of course, the giant display issue, because Google is excellent when it comes to software, but not displays (definitely don’t pick this device if you want a smartphone with an amazing display).

Before I tell you the one that I pick above all, some other devices that are also pretty good include the Xiaomi Mi6, the LG G6,  the Sony Xperia XZ premium, the Essential Phone and the HTC U11. The Blackberry Keyone deserves an honorable mention...Atleast they tried... They’re all amazing but I prefer the ones presented above. The iPhone X is not included in this list because I hate it. I don’t hate Apple, don’t get me wrong, I just can seem to like this device.

Now, I love the OnePlus 5T, It’s an amazing device and I would definitely pick it over many others, but I have to choose the Pixel 2XL. I’m a huge fan of photography and I just wished the device had a better screen, I give it a slight advantage over the OnePlus 5T for me, followed by the Mate 10 and the iPhone 8 Plus. It was, although a really, really tough choice.
