Revisited: Google Pixel
Still one of the best?
The Google Pixel was last year’s Google’s flagship device. Many people fell in love with it, and I can see why: the company didn’t fail in delivering a really well-built smartphone. How does it stack up today against other flagships?
Looks can be deceiving, and that’s what happens with this device. We can see that the design wasn’t probably Google’s priority. The flagship has a glass area on the top back that includes the fingerprint scanner and a bottom aluminium shell, the contrast between both materials is purely ugly. We’re on the end of 2017 and you’re probably by now used to seeing bezel-less devices, as this is a device from last year don’t expect this characteristic. In fact, the device has excessively large chins on the front, with practically no use to them (couldn’t the fingerprint reader be on the front Google?).
Talking about usability although the Pixel carries last year’s Snapdragon 821 it’s still a top performer, also thanks to the stock Android experience that Google provides on its devices. The CPU amongst the Adreno 530 GPU and 4Gb of RAM provides a great experience when it comes to multitasking and gaming. The CPU overclocks at 2.15Ghz and the device has a score of 145.000 points on ANTUTU. Gaming is also great whether you have the 5 inches FHD display version or the astonishing 2K 5.5 inches one. I have a preference for the XL version because it has some “vantage points” over the smaller version. Let’s start with the display, the 5.inch version has a FullHD AMOLED display as the 5.5-inches device has an astonishing 2K AMOLED. The battery is also a plus, the first has a 2770mAh cell, meanwhile, the XL has a 3450mAh, so the battery is a little better on the bigger. Before we get to the cameras, just a quick note that the buyer should buy the version that most fits its needs, whether you get the 32GB or 128GB of storage capacity, you can’t expand it because there’s no SD Card Slot.  |

Now, the cameras are amazing. The spec sheet is not the best but Google proved everyone that software can do wonders. Both front f/2.4 and back f/2.0 cameras take amazingly sharp and colourful photos, even only having the resolution of 8MP and 12.3MP respectively. Most of the devices’ cameras can’t even be compared to these ones, the Pixel is probably still on the top 10 smartphone cameras ever, even though it was released more than a year ago.
If you don’t mind having an ugly device, love photography and constant software updates, then this is the phone for you. You won’t even notice the difference between the Snapdragon 821 and the current top processor, the Snapdragon 835, and the display is the cherry on top. You can buy it on for around 500$, so it's a real steal if you ask me.
