Review: The LG G6

by - novembro 12, 2017

New price, top device?

Starting 2017 with a huge step ahead of its previous generation, LG presented their first full vision display flagship ever. We're almost at the end of the year and my god look at this prodigy.

DESIGN
The G5 was a catastrophe, the modularity introduced by LG was a complete failure and the giant camera bump on the back did not improve its sales. The brand ditched both of this features and presented a glass back that is completely flat except for the slightly rounded sides. It’s IP68 certified (water and dust resistant) and it’s quite a beautiful phone with the dual cameras on the back and the fingerprint reader right below. It’s also a thin and light phone coming in at 7.9mm and 163 grams.

DISPLAY
With a beautiful 5.7 inches QuadHD LCD display, colours are really vivid and LG’s HDR feature allows for a vibrant screen. The flagship has an LG Full Vision display, it just means that the screen is stretched with small bezels and an 18:9 ratio. With a display of 565 PPI and a screen-to-body ratio of 78%, the smartphone is perfect for browsing the web or watching content.

PERFORMANCE
The G6 contains last year’s Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chipset, instead of the current year’s 835, but the average user won’t notice the difference. The cores with a clock speed of 2.4GHz are perfect for gaming, and the 4Gb of RAM allow for a great multitasking experience, scoring 140,000 points on ANTUTU. In conclusion, performance is amazing and the base storage of 32Gb is upgradable via SD Card.

CAMERA
This is probably what I like the most to talk about. The device has a dual 13MP camera system on the back: one wide and one normal. With an aperture of f/1.8 the main lens, with the help of OIS, takes great shots in low light conditions, with even more sharpness than the camera king Google Pixel. The f/2.4 wide-angle lens creates amazing landscape photos and videos. The colours tend to the cooler side of the scale but LG’s camera app delivers excellent manual mode for the experienced user.
The front 5MP camera is, at least disappointing. It’s one of the worst on a flagship device creating really blurry and soft media content, and it’s even worst in low-light.

BATTERY
The 3300mAh battery is good, but not great. Many brands, even the not well-known ones are focusing on battery life with 4000mAh or more. Thankfully, the fast charging allows recharging the device in no-time.  It’s not disappointing though, it still is a good battery life, but it just could be better.

FINAL VERDICT
It has been 8 months since its presentation and the G6 is still one of my top picks. The initial price was around 750€ but through the year and to increase its sales, LG lowered it, so that you can get it even lower than 450€. The dual camera system is the best in my opinion: nothing beats a Wide Angle and a normal lens combination. It’s an amazing all-screen content creation machine and it belongs in the top smartphones of the year.
