Review: iPhone 8 & 8 Plus
The Plus we needed?
Since the beginning of the current year that many rumours emerged surrounding Apple's 8th Gen iPhones. This brand is globally known for their yearly flagship devices and this year shows no compromise.
On a down note, the smartphone's design is still similar to the iPhone 6's, launched in 2014. It doesn't obey to the current edge-to-edge trend as shown on the Galaxy S8 or Mi Mix, it maintains the Home Button on the front that doubles as a fingerprint reader and lacks the 3.5mm headphone jack. The slightly rounded edges, the thickness of only 7.3mm plus the lightness of the smartphones result in an amazing feel in the hand. The glass on the back replaces now the usual aluminium cover and the colours available contribute to a device with amazing beauty.
DISPLAY
The LCD IPS display is really good but I hoped Apple had improved it. With so many flagships improving their displays to Quad-HD resolution, the smaller 4.7 inches version has a PPI of 326 and HD+ resolution while the bigger 5.5-inch brother with a PPI of 401 is only FullHD. The new feature on the brand's Retina Display is the so-called TrueTone feature that adjusts the white balance accordingly to the light conditions of the room.
PERFORMANCE
![]() |
4 of the cores are 70% faster than the A10 Fusion's and the other 2 are
25% faster. The new GPU made by Apple is 30% faster than the previous A10 Fusion chip. |
CAMERA

The most impressive new feature is, however, when it comes to the front camera, supporting 4K60FPS video shooting and the slow-mo FHD 240FPS video recording.
BATTERY
Disappointing me and probably many other users, Apple downgraded the batteries to only 1821mAh and 2700mAh. The battery life should be the same as in the previous generation iPhones', but from Apple, more is demanded. The Glass back allows Qi wireless-charging and the upgrade to fast-charging technology charges the battery to 50% in half an hour, however, the adaptor does not come in the box, you will have to buy it.
FINAL VERDICT
With a base price at 800€ and going all the way up to 1230€, you should probably spend this amount of money on another smartphone. For the specifications, they are way to expensive, for a better price/Quality I recommend other flagships like the Galaxy S8/S8+, that have better specs. It's still an amazing device, with the top tier devices available at the moment, Apple had room for improvement.
